Using Saniderm is the safest and most fool proof product to heal your new tattoo and below you will find detailed directions of how to use this product. I have found no other product nor healing method that can compete with this medical grade barrier. Saniderm is a breathable protective film keeping germs and debris out while allowing the body to naturally heal the skin beneath it without the use of any other products or moisturizers throughout the clients day.
-Wear each sheet of Saniderm until it excess fluids accumulate beneath. The morning after the tattoo will be the heaviest amount of secretions. Remove the Saniderm and immediately wash the tattoo thoroughly with the H2Ocean Foaming wash I provide in your aftercare kit. Wash, rinse repeat. Make sure the final rinse is thorough and cold water is best. Soap residue can cause the new sheet of Saniderm to not stick as well or stick too well.
-To remove the Saniderm its best to do this in a hot shower. The heat and water will loosen the adhesive making it easier and more comfortable to remove.
-Dry the tattoo with a FRESH CLEAN soft towel and allow the skin to air dry for 5 min. Remove a fresh sheet of Saniderm from the sterile packaging and if necessary cut it to size with sharp clean scissors. (rounded edges are better than hard angles for adhering to the skin). Remove the waxy paper backing and apply sticky side down to the tattoo making sure the Sandierm covers the entire tattoo and a little more. For large areas, pieces of Saniderm may be overlapped by 1/4 inch or 2 cm. When applying to elbows and knees the joint should be in a neutral position, neither straight nor bent.
-Now remove the top plastic layer carefully making sure the thin film stays stuck the the skin. If any air bubbles are present take a sanitized pin and poke a single hole to release the air so the film lays flat and even.
-Wear this second sheet until it also fills with secretions. If the secretions are light you should keep the Sandierm on another day, If heavy change it using the method above. If there aren't any secretions don't mess with it at all. Some tattoos only require 2 pieces in the 5-6 days, heavy black work such as tribal may require 3. Everyone is different.
- Around day 5 or 6 take off the Saniderm and again wash your tattoo. You can now begin using ointments, lotions, or salves but only twice a day after each washing. The tattoo will look dry and scaly but this is normal and it will remain that way for up to a week or more.
-Do not use a luffa, wash cloth or exfoliate the skin for another week or two. That scaly dried skin needs to shed itself in its own time. leave it alone and just wash with the cleansing foam and your hands and cold water.
